Did Criss Angel miss the chance to move magic forward?

Criss Angel certainly has the resources to deliver what he promised: “The most mind-blowing, revolutionary magic show ever to be performed live.”

But rival magicians are asking if he has a different goal: to be magic’s ultimate cover band.

Rick Thomas paraphrases the letter he says he sent Angel:

“Your success in Vegas is huge. You have much more opportunity than I do, and many more people who you can hire to work for you to create. I don’t. And when a magician comes up with something they can call their own, let them keep it.”

You may remember Thomas for a family-friendly magic show that ran on the Strip for years. Back when he did a lot of cabinet illusions with tigers, you could call it a bargain version of Siegfried & Roy. David Copperfield Buys Las Vegas Home for a Record $17.55 Million..

Illusionist David Copperfield has paid $17.55 million for a Las Vegas home complete with a movie theater and nightclub—and made an old price record disappear in the process.

The sale, which closed in late June, represents the highest price ever paid for a Las Vegas home, according to the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors.

Ivan Sher of Berkshire HathawayHomeServices Nevada Properties represented both Mr. Copperfield and the seller, health-care executive Kevin Hooks.

Mr. Hooks bought the land for $2.575 million in 2005 and built the house, completing it around 2011. The contemporary home wasn’t officially on the market, and Mr. Hooks said he hadn’t planned on selling it for another few years when he was approached by Berkshire Hathaway.  Read more..

The screening for Now You See Me 2 was cut short due to a security concern on Thursday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The theater was evacuated 10 minutes into the screening and attendees were asked to exit the theater at Caesars Las Vegas, according to Deadline..

The film is the sequel to the successful 2013 movie, Now You See Me, about four talented illusionists who pull off a massive bank heist. The new movie welcomes back Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. Also joining that cast are Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Radcliffe. Read more at…
