More Than Just an Illusion

There has been speculation on the web in recent weeks that some of the effects we see performed on TV and in high profile magic shows may be more than merely ‘illusions’. Although I think it’s safe to say that most of us in the magic community know, or at least have an idea, how many of these illusions are performed, in the interest of fairness I want to present the commentary of an obviously intelligent spectator with a differing view… 

Magic-shows appear to be getting a lot of hype recently. Such shows on TV like Dynamo Magician Impossible and Criss Angel Mindfreak, including the magic show aptly named “The Illusionists 2.0” currently showing at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) have got people talking…………..

…..The very words used to describe the craft of each of these illusionists I find quite disturbing.  So, why do I feel this way? Why do I get this uneasiness when it comes to magicians and illusionists? Am I just reading too much into something that is simply a harmless trick or could it be that as a Christian, I have gained a new insight into these illusions? Could these tricks be more than just an illusion?

There’s a new magician in town, and his name is Troy.

24-year-old Troy Von Scheibner is of German and Jamaican heritage and grew up in South London. At the age of 13 he decided to join The Young Magicians Club, where later he was awarded “young close-up magician of the year” aged only 15.

His new TV series will combine elements of street magic and close up studio illusions, with each episode culminating in one spectacular stunt…
