This August, we’ll re-launch an entire new look for the Best of Las Vegas celebrating its 35th anniversary. We hope to be able to web-broadcast those awards for the first time this fall and follow with a new weekly magazine.

Who better to kick off our new “magic” than the “Magician of the Decade” Criss Angel. Just hours before this Thursday’s premiere of his new Mindfreak Live show at the Luxor he poignantly penned our first guest column.

I’ve already seen his incredible show from warehouse preparation through to previews and it is without doubt ” “The No. 1 Magic Show Of All Time!” Criss is also getting ready to return to A&E network television this Halloween with the one-hour special “Trick’d.”— Robin Leach

Las Vegas Magic Show Duo ‘Siegfried and Roy’ to Get Biopic Treatment..

Las Vegas Magic Show Duo ‘Siegfried and Roy’ to Get Biopic Treatment..

ROME — The German-American duo known as Siegfried and Roy, whose magic show with its trademark white tigers was one of the oldest and most popular in Las Vegas for more than two decades, will be getting the biopic treatment.

UFA Group, which is FremantleMedia’s German production arm, has secured film rights for the biopic, to be directed by Philipp Stoelzl and scripted by Jan Berger, who both worked on UFA’s epic “The Physician.”

The rights deal was brokered by UFA producer and co-CEO Nico Hofmann. FremantleMedia International will handle international distribution.

The “Siegfried & Roy Show” was a major money-maker for MGM Mirage, the company that owns the Mirage Casino and Resort, where  it was based between 1990 and 2003. The show was shut down after a white Bengal tiger called Mantecore grabbed Roy Horn by the neck and dragged him offstage during a performance. Roy survived the attack but was partially paralyzed by it.Read more at:

Local female magician wants to break gender stereotypes..

US actress Lizzy Caplan plays the sole female member in magician quartet Four Horsemen in the Hollywood caper Now You See Me 2.

And in the movie, which is showing here, Caplan’s character crushes the stereotype that women are primarily assistants in the world of magic.

And so does full-time local magician Adeline Ng, 28.

“I would go to an event, talk to the producer… and after talking, he’d ask, ‘So, where’s your magician?’” she told The New Paper.

Miss Ng, who has performed in Australia and India, added that she has experienced such encounters “enough times”. Read more…

Keith Barry’s Hollywood moment..

Keith Barry’s Hollywood moment..

It’s been said that Keith Barry has created a monster. Not Now You See Me 2 – the star-studded illusionist caper, which, despite some mixed reviews Stateside, is actually rollicking good fun – but rather Woody Harrelson, whom Barry skilled up on magic tricks for Harrelson’s role in the movie. Barry’s brand of illusion has apparently become such a part of Harrelson’s going out shtick that he’s now “doing it everywhere he goes, hypnotising people all the time”, the Waterford-born illusionist tells me.

Dave Franco, another cast member, was an even quicker study, Barry tells me. “I handed him a deck of cards and within a couple of days he was at the level of a semi-professional magician. He’s now at the level of a professional. He can take a playing card and turn off the light switch by throwing it. I can’t do that even, although it’s not my speciality.”  Read more…..
