A recent Friday, 1:39 p.m.: Lynx the Animator wheeled a dolly full of magic tricks to the water’s edge in the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf. He hoped his usual weekend spot was available, but instead found another magician named Jonathan Strange in his place.
Undeterred, Lynx said hello, calmly unloaded his equipment and changed into a showman’s outfit, topped off with a floppy porkpie hat.
Sharing territory is a fact of life for the sidewalk entertainers spread out from Pier 39 to the Hyde Street Pier. Staggering their shows and working together to maximize crowds is crucial to survival, where income is dependent on the audience and a performance can rake in anywhere from a dollar to $150…..
