Michael Carbonaro returns as a bartender this week to show off his new ‘liquor light’, which he claims can change any glass of water into the perfectly mixed cocktail. After chatting it up with a friendly customer at the bar who calls herself “an experienced drinker”, Michael mixes her cocktail by simply pouring spring water into a shaker and holding the liquor light over the top. He then enters the ‘code’ for a vodka pomegranate and voila- a perfectly mixed beverage! Michael goes on to sell the trick even more by telling his customer that most liquor companies lie and really only use a liquor light to distill their products- subsequently dropping her jaw to the floor!
Syfy announced earlier this week that it has greenlit a pilot of “The Magicians,” a series based on the hugely popular fantasy books by Lev Grossman.
“Lev Grossman’s dazzling blend of magic and realism will capture the imagination of a new generation of viewers and further strengthen Syfy’s ownership of premium quality sci-fi fantasy drama,” explained Dave Howe, President of Syfy.
The one-hour drama will center on Quentin and his 20-something friends who, while studying magic in New York, discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is actually real.
Grossman is also the author of the New York Times bestselling novel “The Magician King.” The third book in his trilogy, “The Magician’s Land,” will hit shelves in August 2014.

By the time I arrive at the Thames-side pub where I am to meet him and his wife, ‘The Lovely Debbie McGee’, he is already standing by the bar with one leg in the air looking pretty nimble for a man who’s four years shy of 80.
He’s showing off a well-turned ankle inside a candy-pink sock.
Since there are no other customers it is for benefit of the lone barmaid and no, he’s not about to levitate or saw it off – he’s just trying to prove his footwear matches the stripes on his polo shirt.
