We know what you’re thinking: Scientists find a way to read minds..

Think mind reading is science fiction?…Think again.

Scientists have used brain scanners to detect and reconstruct the faces that people are thinking of, according to a a study accepted for publication this month in the journal NeuroImage.

In the study, scientists hooked participants up to an fMRI brain scanner – which determines activity in different parts of the brain by measuring blood flow – and showed them images of faces. Then, using only the brain scans, the scientists were able to create images of the faces the people were looking at.

“It is mind reading,” said Alan S. Cowen, a graduate student at the University of California Berkeley who co-authored the study with professor Marvin M. Chun from Yale and Brice A. Kuhl from New York University…

MAGIC legend Paul Daniels has said there are no “great all-round magicians” at the moment as he prepares to return to Fairfield Halls next month.

The former Every Second Counts host is returning to the halls next month as the King of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland alongside his wife and assistant Debbie McGee as the White Rabbit.

Daniels, 75, spoke to the Advertiser from behind a counter in a shop where he was helping a cashier price items.

He said he has met the current crop of magicians such as David Blaine, Derren Brown and Dynamo but would not judge them properly until he sees them live one stage.

At Magic Planet, the world’s first magic-themed edutainment complex being set up at Kinfra Film and Video Park here, the diorama is the first of numerous exhibits at a unique museum that traces the history of magic globally.

 “Magic as an art form was shrouded in mystery in order to protect its secrets, often being handed down verbally and to only a select few. The magic history museum comes to life with stories and feats from some of the most fascinating performers the world has ever witnessed,” says Gopinath Muthukad, executive director of the Thiruvananthapuram-based Magic Academy which has conceptualised the park….
