Watch ‘Wizard Wars’ co-creator and Detroit area native Rick Lax perform 13 magic tricks

Lee DeVito for Detroit’s Metro Times..

Rick Lax used to practice magic tricks at Caribou Coffee as part of Royal Oak’s little street performance scene. He moved to Las Vegas in what was supposed to be a short stint to work on a book about magic, but his stay has since extended to seven years, in which he successfully developed and pitched a new SyFy show called Wizard Wars, a reality TV competitionthat premiered last week.

“You can peek behind the curtain without fully lifting the curtain away. It’s a peek,” Lax tells us by phone. “Each episode, you will be let in on the creative process, but also in each episode, you will walk away fooled. You’re going to get a hint of the magician’s process, and that’s real — you’re going to learn the terms, and see the way the magicians think — but we’re never going to give so much away that you know 100 percent how the trick is done in the end.” Lax describes the show as like “Iron Chef for magicians,” with Penn and Teller serving as the show’s judges.

Dynamo – real name Steven Frayne – was snapped 1,000ft above the ground at the top of The Shard in London.

But some pictures snapped from stunned bystanders below appear to show he may have had a little help, with shadows of possible wires just about visible.

This afternoon the 31-year-old posted a picture on his Twitter accounting saying ‘the view is great from up here’ and invited people to ‘look up’.

Watch: Magician Paul Daniels reveals why he and wife Debbie couldn’t appear on Celebrity Big Brother

Much-loved magician Paul Daniels has revealed that he and wife Debbie McGee were considered for Celebrity Big Brother but had to decline the invite.

The decision to not go on the Channel 5 show was due to family reasons says Paul on his YouTube channel explaining that both the couple’s nephew and Debbie’s father are ill.

The South Bank-raised magic man said: “After much misinformation I’m setting the record straight.

“The Big Brother team are very nice people.

“They came around and discussed the possibility of Debbie and I being the first couple to go into the Big Brother house.”

Paul, 76, says that the main motivator for the couple to go onto the show would have been cash.

He said: “A job is a job is a job.

“To be fair, Big Brother offered a lot of money.”

David Blaine puts on magic show for dangerous inmates

By Jamie Schram, Frank Rosario and Danika Fears for the New York Post.

Daredevil magician David Blaine dazzled a packed house at a Manhattan show with his illusions, card tricks and the timeless yanking a rabbit out of a hat.

But the spectators were not the usual theatergoers shelling out more than $100 a pop for tickets.

The escape artist performed his Houdini-like tricks for some of the city’s most dangerous inmates, who were treated to the show by the Department of Correction, The Post has learned.

“How the hell does a killer get to watch a rabbit get pulled out of a hat?” a source asked of the hour-long show for high-security inmates on the sixth floor of the Manhattan Detention Complex, known as The Tombs.
