It’s all in the presentation.

That’s how to become a successful magician, according to Quebec City’s Jean Deshais, who put on a one-hour workshop for about 20 kids at the North Bay Public Library, Thursday.

Deshais, who was also presenting workshops around the city and in Callander and Bonfield this week, said it’s the presentation that will determine whether a magician’s show is a success or not.

“The tricks are not important. You have to entertain,” Deshais said. “The presentation is everything. If you just do trick after trick after trick, it’s not magic. You have to entertain your audience. And you don’t do that by just doing tricks.” ( By PJ Wilson for the Nugget )

Paul Daniels blast government after receiving massive tax bill for caring for his mother..

He chose to look after his mother during her final years rather than place her in the unfamiliar surroundings of a care home.

Paul Daniels adapted her house, spending thousands of pounds on it so she could retain her independence.

But yesterday the celebrity magician vented his fury at discovering he faces being penalised by the taxman for doing so…

He says he is facing a capital gains tax bill of £136,000 when he sells his late mother’s home.

As it was registered in Daniels’s name and not his mother’s, he is liable to pay the tax on it as a ‘second home’.

But he says that by caring for his mother himself he has saved the government thousands of pounds – and the essential renovations to the house should be tax deductible.

“My tagline is ‘Bring Vegas to Queens,’” Rogue said. “We’re going to have the showgirls and dancers. We’re going to have the magic show and a variety show. We’re going to have the food, the drinks, dÈcor and the celebrity magicians.”
