Romano Gets Big Thumbs Up for Mathematics Magic

Romano Gets Big Thumbs Up for Mathematics Magic

Some of you guys know my appreciation for strong Math Magic. Derek Brouwer for the Independent Record reports on a math teacher at Four Georgians Elementary who uses mathmagic to simultaneously teach her students and win awards..

Learning math is a bit like magic, at least if your teacher is Melissa Romano.

Romano, a math teacher at Four Georgians Elementary, has found a way to use card tricks with her students, and in the process has honed cutting-edge techniques for teaching everyone’s favorite subject.

And for her abilities, Romano recently earned a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching from the U.S. government…

5 Party Tricks Every Guy Should Know..

I admit.. not every news item is a must-read. Some, like Tess Barkers article in Mtv’s Guy Code, are slightly on the warped side. It’s OK.. I’m not too ‘above the rise’ to publish the Good, the Bad, AND the Ugly… ( I’m sure these were published in jest.. take ’em for what they are…)

Tired of being ignored at parties while some drunk idiot is surrounded by girls entertained by his cheap “magic” tricks? End your days of party obscurity and become that drunk idiot by learning at least a couple of these important nightlife skills.

Winter Carnival of Magic..

Winter Carnival of Magic..

Just received this in my inbox from the good folks at IBM ring58 in Knoxville Tn. . I generally don’t report on conferences, conventions and individual performances, in part because of the time factor. If I report on a show in Chicago scheduled for next week, then the post will basically ‘expire’ in only a few days. But the Winter Carnival of Magic in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is different: It was the second magic convention I had the privilege of attending; It was located in one of my favorite spots on earth; and the timing, theatre seating, and close proximity were all to my liking.. This is the ‘one’ convention I make plans to attend each year, regardless of how many more, or few, I attend. Scheduled for March 6-8, this years talent will make it one of the best conventions yet… This years lineup includes: Brian Gillis & Sisuepahn, Dana Daniels, Jade, Levent, Pop Haydn, Paul Gertner, Stephen Bargatze, Suzanne, Geoff Williams, Tim Harkleroad, Gregory Wilson, and Dan Garrett!

To quote from Ring 58:

Since this is our 40th (XL) Winter Carnival of Magic, we asked are talent chairman to make sure the talent was also XL. He didn’t let us down. We have FIVE shows including our two stage shows and the close up show. We will also have seven lectures featuring Levent, Geoff Williams, Dan Garrett, Paul Gertner, Brian Gillis, Pop Haydn, and Gregory Wilson.

The complete schedule can be viewed at http://wintercarnivalofmagic.com/sched.php. Information on rates, hotels, and competitions as well as how to register for the convention can be found on our website at http://wintercarnivalofmagic.com. We look forward to seeing you in March!
