Magic Camp Helps Treat Children with Hemiplegia

Magic Camp Helps Treat Children with Hemiplegia

7News in Australia reports on young children with medical problems being helped through magic…

Hemiplegia is a form of paralysis on one side of the body..

The condition means a simple task like tying your shoelaces can be tricky for children.

But it no longer seems such an enormous challenge for Ella Korlaki, 8, now that she can magically repair a piece of rope after slicing it in half.

“It’s helpful, it’s educational and it’s fun,” Ella said.

Ella is taking part in the first magic camp run by the Arts Health Institute, an Australian charity using the performing arts to help those with health needs.

Some of Australia’s best magicians are working alongside occupational therapists, teaching close-up magic tricks to the young participants.

Magician, photographer, and avid balloon twister Rob Driscoll actually did so every day of 2013, and emerged with stunning latex versions of Mickey Mouse, Yoda, and even a full turkey dinner..”

Gallons of water flooded into the home he shares with other half Debbie McGee  as the upper reaches of the River Thames in Berkshire couldn’t cope with the  deluge.

Not even TV wand-waver Daniels, who had earlier started to alert neighbours,  could hold back the tide.”

Hope Without Borders – A Commentary

The Rev. Andrea Ayvazian and Gazettenet.com provided both the magic community and all interested communities with these thoughts…

“Recently, while reflecting on the violence, pain, and deprivation in so many places around the world, I found myself wondering what a single caring person can do besides sending money and lifting prayers. Then I remembered how one man, Tom Verner, took his skill as a magician and — modeling his initiative after Doctors Without Borders — left with his wife and a few friends for places of suffering around the world and offered what he could offer: magic shows. Following that initial trip, Magicians Without Borders was born.”
