Criss Angel aims to enchant and delight with ‘The Supernaturalists’

“Mindfreak” magician Criss Angel is about to make new magic by appearing in two casinos 2,500 miles apart simultaneously for his new show “The Supernaturalists.” It premieres June 23 at Foxwoods resort in Connecticut with a four-week run before setting out on a national and world tour.

Criss has signed up nine mind-blowing illusionists to destroy reality and revolutionize the live magic ensemble experience.

“My goal is to redefine magic touring like Cirque du Soleil did for the circus. Our lineup is truly historic with not only original illusions but also revolutionary ones. I scoured the globe for the very best performers each in their respected disciplines.”

His unprecedented world-class cast includes illusionist Landon Swank, who moved to Las Vegas after high school from his Alaska home to pursue the dream of magic. He was featured on 10 episodes of “America’s Got Talent” before reaching the finals. Read more..

Magicians still casting spells across Canada and the world..

Magicians still casting spells across Canada and the world..

By Allan Maki for the Globe and Mail..

As curio shops go, Brent Smith’s Vanishing Rabbit is all things magical. Attached to the ceiling is a series of old billboards advertising the greats through the ages – Houdini, Sorcar, Mandrake and a young Doug Henning as Chou Chou (pronounced Shoe Shoe), the clown who actually sold shoes for a living.

Inside Mr. Smith’s store, a creepy-looking Charlie McCarthy puppet sits above display cases filled with easy-to-perform tricks and novelties, including the ever-popular Fart Extinguisher.

“It’s a big hit with the kids,” Mr. Smith says as he emerges from behind a counter holding a deck of Svengali playing cards. “I sell a lot of cards, too. Magic is really hot right now.”

Magic isn’t just hot: It is a bubbling cauldron of showy illusionists, polished prestidigitators and expert sleight-of-hand artists. Turn on the TV and out pop the master tricksters – Dynamo, known as Magician Impossible; David Blaine, street magician/endurance artist; and Criss Angel Mindfreak, who can lop off the arm of a willing volunteer using hypnosis and a power saw. Viewer discretion is advised.

Criss Angel to launch third production, aims for six in next four years..

By Robin Leach for the Las Vegas Sun..

Tied into the 88th anniversary of magician Harry Houdini’s still-discussed death and on the eve of his own sixth anniversary of Cirque du Soleil’s “Believe” at the Luxor now approaching 2,500 shows, magician Criss Angel reveals that he’s launching a third live production — and he plans to have a total of six in the next four years.

“That’s the goal,” he told me this morning when he revealed a June 2015 world premiere of “The Supernaturalists.” He’s signed eight mind-blowing global magicians who destroy reality for the show titled from his 2003 Sci-Fi special that also was used in the Ludacris song about “Mindfreak.”
