We are reluctant to report stories of this sort, largely because of the possibility of the accused being found not guilty.. and then their reputation is irreparably damaged. This particular case is being reported because it is being reported by the FBI, and not solely a news agency.)

Award-winning Las Vegas magician Jan Rouven kept over 3,400 child pornography videos on computers in his pool house, FBI officials said Wednesday.

Rouven, 38, the star of a Vegas Strip show called “The New Illusions,” sent an undercover agent videos of men having sex with boys in an online file sharing exchange in August, according to a federal complaint unsealed Wednesday at his detention hearing.

Investigators who traced Rouven’s IP address later searched the casita at his Las Vegas mansion, uncovering 3,486 kiddie porn videos and 111 pictures on Rouven’s iMac and external hard drive, FBI agents said. Rouven’s husband told agents he was angry because his partner looks at porn “24/7,” the complaint said.

MASTER MAGICIAN JAN ROUVEN PLANS TO BE ON THE LAS VEGAS STRIP FOR YEARS TO COME..

Jan Rouven has performed an inestimable number of tricks on the path to Strip-headliner status, but it looks like a majority of his future escapes and sleight-of-hand demonstrations will be in Las Vegas. The German magician first arrived in Vegas in October 2009, performing some of the escapes from his current Tropicana show The New Illusions before awestruck crowds on Fremont Street. His star rose quickly, and by November of last year he was not only a headliner on the south end of the Strip but one of fewer than a handful of marquee magicians branded on billboards and playing the biggest casino-resort rooms. With no plans to leave Las Vegas, Rouven’s ascent can only continue.

“I love it here,” says Rouven. “I’m happy.” And it shows in his performances. Rouven’s effervescence is contagious, and his sly sense of humor—often self-deprecating, playing up his Teutonic-accented pronunciations—contributes to the charm offensive that wins over audiences.  Read more..

Magicians labor in shadow of big names, but they’re tenacious..

“Welcome to my new stage,” Jan Rouven says. Then, as he steps down from it to a folding chair that serves as the halfway point to the floor, “It’s not a step, it’s a leap.”

Nice one. But it’s not even the best metaphor of the conversation.

I’ve come to talk to Rouven about his step/leap to the Tropicana. The new show opens Friday at a relaunched property with promise so far unfulfilled. It also puts him on the same intersection with David Copperfield and Criss Angel, two more famous magicians with bigger marketing budgets.

To make things even more interesting, Rouven’s old room at the Rivera has been taken over by Dirk Arthur, who opens there Dec. 1. Arthur is calling his show “Wild Illusions,” while Rouven’s is still called “Illusions.”

Arthur is “a clever marketing guy, obviously,” Rouven says.

“Don’t be nice,” chastises his manager and show producer, Frank Alfter. Then he adds, “Everything is good, but they could have avoided this one. It’s confusing for the customer.”
