A couple of things you will see on Syfy’s “Wizard Wars” Tuesday that you don’t see in Las Vegas:

A) New illusions created in a competitive setting, not just the same old stuffing of women into cabinets and stabbing them with swords.

B) The larger illusion that young, attractive people actually sit and watch young, attractive people perform magic in cool nightclubs.

“We did kind of build this ideal magic venue,” Rick Lax says of the latter, created in the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner building that’s seen new life for film and TV production.

In Las Vegas, he agrees, “most magic shows are not set up that way. They’re not that intimate and the audience isn’t that attractive and young.”

But maybe A can help make B come true…

Las Vegas magician Rob Anderson knew he wanted to help when he received an email three months ago from a man who had the desire to propose to his girlfriend “in a way that was both a surprise and magical.”

From halfway around the world, Anderson worked with James — a then-stranger who lived in Germany — to craft the perfect proposal.

“I came up with the idea in the video, and we made plans secretly via Skype and Facebook from half a world away,” Anderson told TheBlaze Monday. “The most difficult part was not having any time to rehearse in person until the day before the proposal, when he landed in Vegas.”..

Las Vegas (CNN) – Not many cities evoke as many instant associations as Las Vegas.

Maybe you think of the Rat Pack, showgirls and mobsters sipping martinis. Or perhaps it’s bachelorettes and bros on a bender that everyone hopes won’t end up on Facebook.

It’s a town whose story has been told thousands of times, in books such as “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” movies such as “Casino” and televisions shows from “Vega$” to “Vegas.”

But there’s much more to the city than just sin.

More than half a million people live here – about 800,000 if you include the adjacent suburb of Henderson. Plenty of slots and cocktails still abound, but the arts and cultural scene is blossoming and a tech boom is building.
