POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – A Schuylkill County man is proof that a disability should never hold you back.

Lenny McHugh is blind, but that isn’t stopping him from pursuing his dream to be a magician.

Lenny said his magic shows will help other people with disabilities get their own service dog.

His current companion, a two-year-old black lab named Otter, is Lenny’s fourth dog from Freedom Guide Dogs.

Besides giving back to the organization that gave him so much, Lenny hopes to inspire the next generation, sharing a powerful message that no matter what happens in your life, giving up is never the answer. Read more and watch the video at….

Magic Castle, Los Angeles: Where the magic happens..

Magic Castle, Los Angeles: Where the magic happens..

Any evening that begins by whispering the words “open sesame” to a golden owl with blinking red eyes to open a secret passageway through a faux bookcase is bound to be memorable.

High on a hill, the Magic Castle is a private club for members of Academy of Magical Arts that, over the years, has counted Cary Grant, Mae West, Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp as visitors and members. Neil Patrick Harris was recently the president.

This is not any private club, it’s an ornately decorated Victorian mansion with a Disney-like turret just steps away from Hollywood Boulevard. Inside is the mysterious world of magic. Secret doors and hidden panels lead to the 13 different performance stages where elaborate illusions are performed. For a tourist, the Magic Castle is surprisingly easy to get in to, though a coat and tie or formal frock are obligatory.

If you don’t know who Milt Larsen is upon entering, there is no doubt you will by the end of the night. His portrait is everywhere. The 85-year-old leased the mansion back in 1961 and scavenged film sets (including the bar from the movie Hello Dolly, and a Johnny Carson Tonight Show backdrop) to deck it out.Read more.. Interview: Female Magician Jade Discusses Magic Career..

Jade, one of the world’s top female magicians, chatted with Digital Journal about her career in the magic scene. She also touches upon the gender differences in the art of magic.

She took the male-dominated world of magic by storm in 1990, when she became the first female magician to win the International Brotherhood of Magicians’ prestigious Gold Medal of Magic, which is awarded only a handful of times in the competition’s lengthy history.

Throughout her career, Jade has earned multiple awards for her performances in the United States and abroad, which include the Mandrake Award from France as well as the “Female Magician of the Year” award from the International Magicians Society in Las Vegas; moreover, her stunning performance for the Royal Family of Monaco at the Princess Grace Theater was one of her many career highlights.  Read more…

Not Playing Tricks, but Preventing Magic from Vanishing’..

As a world-acclaimed magician, Tony Hassini’s not playing tricks to make things disappear. Rather he’s using his hands to prevent the enchanting art of magic from vanishing – to the extent of planning an Olympics for the genre in India.

The ace, elderly and globetrotting rockstar magician Hassini is the president of the US-based International Magicians Society, the world’s largest professional body of magicians.

“Persistence and determination are the two key words to success,” Hassini, 75, who was born with a hearing impairment and dyslexia, told IANS in an interview here.

It’s the repertoire of tricks that changed his life.

“Magic gave me the self-confidence and the opportunity to see eye-to-eye,” the Muammar Gaddafi lookalike said.

Sharing his inspirational journey from a disabled child born during World War II to an immigrant dish-washer to an acclaimed magician, Cyprus-born Hassini said: “Everybody has the desire to be rich. Talent doesn’t make it. There are so many talented people who are starving. Hard work doesn’t make it.” Read more..
