Dynamo’s bottle magic trick didn’t go to plan in London..

Dynamo’s bottle magic trick didn’t go to plan in London..

It is every magician’s worst nightmare: doing a trick in front of a live audience which fails.

That happened to Dynamo at London’s O2 Arena.

It began well when he invited audience member Tom on stage to help him with a trick that involved him getting a mobile phone into a bottle.

He managed the first part of the trick but not the big finish. The phone was supposed to ring once, but it didn’t. Watch the video at:

Why is it Important that Magic be defined as ‘Art’?

Why is it Important that Magic be defined as ‘Art’?

Actually, there are many reasons.. but the primary reason is so magicians can qualify for grants and loans, plus, receive special recognition through the government and endowment funds. Many artists, like performing artists and media artists, receive grants to allow them to create without the struggles of the prototypical ‘struggling artist’..  Because of their official recognition as artists, dance companies, jazz bands, and film makers, among others, all qualify for government grants..

Rep. Pete Sessions, a Dallas Republican and House Rules Committee chairman introduced a resolution to recognize magic “as a rare and valuable art form” and a “national treasure.” The goal, according to the measure is to “support efforts to make certain that magic is preserved, understood and promulgated”

“Magic is an art form with a power and potential unlike any other. The purpose of Congressional Resolution 642 is to help preserve, protect, and promote the art of magic for generations to come -with equal artistic respect as dance, jazz, music, and film.

Wyrick brings ‘Ultra Magic’ to White House…

The White House Theatre will now be the new home for “Steve Wyrick: Ultra Magician,” which is slated to open over Memorial Day weekend in the 1,200-seat venue. Wyrick will be co-headlining the theatre with another new show, “The Legend of Kung Fu Return of the Dragon.”

According to a release from the theater, Wyrick’s 90-minute show will be “the largest magic show … in history,”  and feature the White House Theatre’s state-of-the-art, $1 million LED video wall with more than one million lights. The addition of a secondary video wall will also make the show “the most technologically advanced magic show in history.”

He’ll also be introducing his two newest signature illusions in this $10-million show, executive-produced by Hollis Campbell and Matt McGraw.

“My new multimedia show merges the art of illusion with the most advanced video technology available,” Wyrick said. “For example, I go inside a Ms. Pac-Man video game, leaving the present time, and create magic in a virtual world there. Read more… (Photo courtesy of White House Theatre)

Chloe Crawford to co-star in Criss Angel’s ‘Mindfreak Live!’ at Luxor…

Criss Angel has made official what has been apparent since last fall: He plans to make Chloe Crawford a star in his magic universe.

Crawford is to be a co-star in Angel’s “Mindfreak Live!” opening at the Luxor on May 11. A partnership with Cirque du Soleil, the show replaces “Believe,” which closes April 17 after a 7 ½-year run at the hotel.

“Mindfreak Live!” is to feature Angel with a cast of performers who bring such skills as acrobatics, “tricking” and body balancing. The production charts Angel’s life and career path as a young magician to the Las Vegas stage.

Crawford became well known in Las Vegas as a cast member of “Fantasy” at the Luxor and as an assistant in her then-husband Murray Sawchuck’s afternoon comedy-magic show, first at Laugh Factory at Tropicana and later Sin City Theater at Planet Hollywood.

Angel was swiftly introducing Crawford from his audiences at the Luxor, as he’s promised, “You’ll be hearing big things from her very soon.” Crawford has frequently been at his side in public, including during Friday night’s “One Night for One Drop” Cirque charity production at the Smith Center.  Read more…
