NYC magician Oz Pearlman wins Long Island Marathon..

All smoke, no mirrors: The marathon magician made the competition disappear.

Oz Pearlman, a New York City-based magician and mentalist, led a pack of about 960 runners to win the Long Island Marathon on a sun-soaked day Sunday– a year after coming in second place in the race and two weeks after competing in the Boston Marathon.

Pearlman, 32, who crossed the finish line at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 25 seconds, beat out second-place finisher Jerry Pannullo by more than 20 minutes. Pannullo, 45, of East Islip, came in at 2:46:51 and Brooklyn’s Viktor Chistyakov, 36, was third at 2:53:22. Read more at:

David Blaine Performs Magic For Baltimore Protesters After Underwater Stunt [PHOTOS]

After apparently holding his breath underwater for 10 minutes, magician David Blaine took to the streets of Baltimore to perform tricks for protesters Wednesday. Hundreds of demonstrators had gathered there in the wake of the Monday funeral of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old black man who died from injuries sustained during an arrest.

Blaine’s trip to the city was apparently spontaneous, as he hadn’t tweeted or promoted his appearance in advance. His last message on his official Twitter account showed him submerged in a tank of water with several fish swimming around him

Protesters generally seemed excited by Blaine’s free performance and shared pictures on Twitter. “It’s a little bit awesome to imagine the moment David Blaine saw the news and thought, ‘Gotta get down there and do some magic,’ ” one person wrote. “David Blaine is here in Baltimore, drawing a bigger crowd of youths with each trick,” another added. Getting there by magic: Budding Blount magician gets career taste in Las Vegas..

Some might view a last-minute invitation to Las Vegas with a touch of skepticism, but for local magician Ben Young, it was the opportunity of a lifetime.

“Superhero Magician” Ben Young experienced all the world of professional magic had to offer last month as he performed in Las Vegas with celebrated magician Murray Sawchuck, best known for his appearances on the History Channel series “Pawn Stars” and for being a semifinalist in the fifth season of “America’s Got Talent.”

Opening for Sawchuck on both the Planet Hollywood and Thunderbird Hanger stages, Young was given a crash course in the exciting and glamorous life of a Vegas performer, soaking in the desert scene nearly 2,000 miles from home. Read more… ( article by Tanner Hancock for The Daily Times..)

For Persi Diaconis’ Next Magic Trick …

For Persi Diaconis’ Next Magic Trick …

By: Erica Klarreich for QuantaMagazine

Persi Diaconis shuffled and cut the deck of cards I’d brought for him, while I promised not to reveal his secrets. “I’m not going to give you the chance,” he retorted. In an empty conference room at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Antonio, Texas, this January, he casually tossed the cards into four piles in a seemingly random motion — yet when he checked, each pile magically had an ace on top. “Of course, it’s easy to get confused when there are a lot of cards, so let me just take four,” he said, scooping up the aces. He swiveled the four-card pile in his hands — always keeping it in the same flat plane — and sometimes the aces were faceup, sometimes facedown, even though they couldn’t possibly have flipped over… Read more at:
