‘The Carbonaro Effect’: TruTV Remembers The Days of ‘Candid Camera’ With Magician Michael Carbonaro [INTERVIEW]

By Kyle Dowling Jr. for MSTARS NEWS

At some point in time, television tossed away the good-hearted fun of shows such as Candid Camera and focused more so on pranks and tricks. Some would argue that such an act caused there to be a incredible disconnect between the at-home viewer and the television show itself. But now, truTV is attempting to bring back that feeling of awe with The Carbonaro Effect and magician Michael Carbonaro.

The show, which premiered to outstanding numbers back in May, features Carbonaro as the host / magician who places himself in everyday situations with random, unsuspicious people and then performs baffling tricks for them right before their very eyes.

Carbonaro recently spoke with MStarz about the show, his love of both magic and improv, and how he’s hoping to bring back the feel of Candid Camera with his new show….

Michael Carbonaro: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know..

By Lauren Weigle for HEAVY

Michael Carbonaro will blow your mind. He’s a magician’s magician, a prankster like you’ve never seen, and he’s easy on the eyes. What’s most important is that Carbonaro knows how to keep a secret … He tells us:

Rule number one in magic is never reveal a secret. I never reveal that I’m a magician because I feel that’s kind of giving away a secret.

We got a chance to catch up with Carbonaro this week and he gave us a glimpse into his fun-filled life of magic.

truTV’s “The Carbonaro Effect(TM)” Grows +40% among Young Adults..

Are YOU watching the Carbonaro Effect on truTV? I’ve watched all four shows to date – and I’m very impressed. It’s such a refreshing change from typical magic shows that attempt, to sometime impossible degrees, to out-do the competition. Michael uses primarily sleight of hand and misdirection to fool the spectator into thinking they are seeing something technologically advanced, scientific, or downright mysterious, not necessarily magical. It’s the resulting ‘situation’ that’s so entertaining… It’s also fun seeing Johnny Thompson, David Regal, and friend Chad Sanborn,  among the cast.. (Editor)

The Carbonaro Effect – Thursdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT)

truTV’s new series The Carbonaro Effect stars Michael Carbonaro, a magician by trade but a trickster at heart. In each episode of this hidden-camera series, Michael amazes and amuses ordinary unsuspecting people in various locations and situations. Posing as an ordinary bartender or a seemingly unremarkable salesman, he astonishes unknowing citizens by turning a tuft of hair into a puppy or pouring 12 pints of beer from an ordinary bottle. Whether they are alone or with their friends, everyone is left stunned and delighted, even though they have no idea what just hit them. Real people. No camera tricks. Just The Carbonaro Effect.

Actor, magician, comedian and improv artist Michael Carbonaro is a familiar face to television viewers thanks to his appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has also played roles on Happily Divorced, The Newsroom, 30 Rock, Wizards of Waverly Place, CSI: Miami and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is an OutFest Best Actor Award winner, as well as a two-time nominee for an Academy of Magical Arts Magician of the Year award. Michael hosts and performs shows of comedy, magic and other bizarre acts at a variety of clubs worldwide, including NYC’s Joe’s Pub and Hollywood’s Magic Castle.

The Carbonaro Effect is produced for truTV by Fields Entertainment and 11 Television, with Simon Fields, Kevin Healey & Michael Carbonaro serving as executive producers.

‘The Carbonaro Effect’: Michael Carbonaro on Going From Jay Leno’s Magic Clerk to Hosting His Own Magic Show..

Very good interview by Robert Chan for Yahoo TV.

Michael Carbonaro just wants to make your life a little more magical. In his new show, “The Carbonaro Effect,” the magician crafts elegant stunts so that people don’t even realize magic is happening. Imagine if David Copperfield were your grocery clerk. Heck, why imagine it?

The show is a modern, smarter take on “Candid Camera.” We talked with the actor/comedian/magician, who spent a season on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” before spinning off his Magic Clerk segment into this new show (in which he also plays bartenders, waiters, and office co-workers), about his influences, how to convince people a duck is not a duck, and why it’s so important for him to take the ego out of magic.’
