Hey Presto: Sydney magic shop goes up in puff of smoke..
A magic shop went up in a puff of smoke in Sydney’s CBD overnight, but firefighters must have been dismayed to find that this was no illusion.
Fire crews were called to the Hey Presto Magic Studio, which bills itself as the largest magic shop in the southern hemisphere, on Pitt Street in the CBD at 3.25am on Monday to find the ground-floor building completely smoke logged.
Superintendent Tom Cooper, from Fire and Rescue NSW, said the source of the blaze was believed to be packets of flash paper, commonly used in magicians’ tricks.
Flash paper ignites with a brilliant flame, and can create the illusion that flames are coming from a person’s fingertips.
