Seven Artists Named for Broadway’s The Illusionists — Witness the Impossible..

The seven artists who will be featured in The Illusionists — Witness the Impossible, which will make its Broadway debut at the Marriott Marquis Theatre beginning Nov. 2, have been announced.

As previously reported, what is billed as “the world’s best-selling touring magic show” will play a limited Broadway run through Jan. 4, 2015. Opening night is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Conceived by Simon Painter, the show’s creative team also includes executive producer Tim Lawson, director Neil Dorward and creative director Jim Millan.

“This mind-blowing spectacular showcases the jaw-dropping talents of seven of the most incredible illusionists on earth,” according to press notes. “Full of hilarious magic tricks, death-defying stunts and acts of breathtaking wonder, The Illusionists has dazzled audiences of all ages.”

Look out, because there’s another show coming to Broadway that has magic to do. The Illusionists—Witness the Impossible will astonish the Great White Way with a series of spectacles this fall,Deadline reports. The show will dazzle audiences at the Marquis theatre beginning November 26 and run through January 4, 2015. Opening night is set for December 4.

Making Magic – Illusionist Dan Sperry gives a modern edge to an age-old craft.

Nice article by Craig Mathieson in the Brisbane Times about magician Dan Sperry. Dan and other members of the Illusionists are performing in Australia and have garnered a good deal of attention from the press.

Magicians, notes Dan Sperry, are very sensitive artists. Sperry should know,  as he’s the magic practitioner whose motto is, “Magic no longer sucks”. Whether  as a marketing tool or a one-man-against-the-world  slogan it has certainly  caught on, but there are some side effects.

“Magicians take stuff very personally, comedians are incredibly thick-skinned  by comparison,” admits Sperry. “Using ‘Magic no longer sucks’ still offends so  many magicians – a lot of them hate on me, but it’s helped make a  difference.”

It is the immediate response to a decent magic  trick – be it a fiddle with some cards or British hypnotist Derren Brown’s  magic-whispering some upright citizens into staging an armed robbery – but it is  the question no magician will answer. How you saw a lady in half, how you make a  motorbike disappear in a blast of firecrackers …   silence on these matters is  part of the craft. The thrill of magic, according to the fraternity, lies in its  impenetrability.”
